IF YOU WANT TO LIVE TO 100

Living to 100 is no longer a far fetched idea, it’s a real possibility.

  • Walk a lot - best exercise ever!
  • Eat your veggies - like mama said - and fruits, too!
  • Avoid boredom. Do what it takes to ward it off.
  • Keep moving. Yoga (if you’re into it), stretching and bending, working with light weights, etc.
  • Keep up with what’s going on in the world. Your brain needs the exercise and you really don’t need to be regarded as a relic.
  • Enjoy a glass of wine or other alcoholic drink every day.
  • Dark chocolate is a marvelous panacea for growing older.
  • Most people need people. So if you do, cultivate and keep your friends. You may outlive them but their friendship will have been priceless.
  • Conversely, if you’ve been a loner all your life, take solace in things you’ve always loved, books, great music, your animals, nature, etc.
  • Some in the younger generations will find you interesting and love to talk to you.  Enjoy it!
  • Don’t complain constantly about your ailments.  Try to keep a sense of humor about the whole thing. It’s only age.
  • Learn something new. Try studying Mandarin Chinese or something simpler like chess. Good for the brain.
  • Digging in the garden is good for your psyche and also your agility. Puts you in touch with the earth - all that good dirt!
  • Companionship - in all its aspects - being with another contributes to a long and happy life.
  • If you are working and have no intention of retiring - don’t!  Older workers are good workers. Gives one a sense of being needed and productive, and you’re doing something  you enjoy.
  • Hang onto that sense of optimism.  You’ll make it!

  1. I'll add: go on vacation with your grandchildren - that will keep you young too!
